Membership Agreements of New Zealand Institute of Physics
Reciprocal membership agreement with the American Physical Society (APS) Under a reciprocal membership agreement each society agrees to extend a defined range of member rights and privileges to members of the other society but without conferring membership. Our agreement with the APS provides that:
Conversely,
This agreement was signed in September 2000 and remains in force until either the NZIP or the APS gives 12 month's notice of termination or of a wish to renegotiate. Members of NZIP can obtain details of APS meetings from http://www.aps.org/meet . A full calendar of meetings is available on http://www.aps.org/meet/calendar.html . NZIP members submitting papers or registering at these meetings should cite this agreement and their NZIP membership to obtain reciprocal benefits. The APS journals to which this agreement applies include the Physical Review (all sections), Physical Review Letters and Reviews of Modern Physics. Members of APS wishing to register at or submit papers to NZIP meetings (NZIP biennial conference, the Solid State meetings held in New Zealand with the Australian Physical Society at four-yearly intervals, and such other meetings as may be arranged) should cite this agreement and their APS membership number on registering. Joint Membership of NZIP and the (United Kingdom) Institute of Physics (IOP) Under a joint membership agreement full membership of both societies is available for the payment of a combined annual subscription. NZIP is pleased to announce that we have an agreement with the IOP that provides for joint membership at an annual fee which is substantially less than the sum of the fees for each. Under this agreement joint membership initially confers membership as an Affiliate of IOP and as a Member of NZIP. However the other classes of membership (IOP: Associate-Member, Member, and Fellow; NZIP: Fellow) are available to joint members who meet the usual membership criteria of the societies for these classes. Applicants desirous of one of these classes of membership should request specific application forms on applying for joint membership. Joint membership under this agreement is available to those who are already members of both societies and provides for their existing classes of membership. For the current year (until December 2001) the combined base fee is $160 for all except those who are Fellows of either society. For Fellows the fee is the base fee plus the differential for Fellowship: $15 for NZIP and/or $82 for IOP. The two societies operate different membership years: for NZIP the year ends on 30 April, whereas the IOP now operate an "any day year" so that the membership year for new applicants runs for 12 months from the date of joining (for most existing members it ends on 31 December). For this reason NZIP will accept the joint subscription in two parts that are due on 30 April and the anniversary of joint membership respectively. To apply for joint membership:
Applications should be made to the NZIP Secretary. Reciprocal membership agreement with the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) For information on this agreement contact the Education Section Chairman.
